This weekend I had the pleasure of being photographed and post processed by the man himself, Skip Staheli.
Though I generally do not like overphotoshopped Secondlife pictures (most of the time they bring me to uncanny valley and freak me out), he is one of the artists who work with great taste and lifts the genre to a whole new level. I have to admit: most of his pics are pretty damn awesome.
So I won this opportunity through a photo contest, and was excited to see the result. I have to admit, I know I am raggedly handsome :), there was no surprise there :P. What I liked about the picture most is that he had put a camera in my hand, and placed me into a field which could very well be the location where I shot that contest winning picture. And this detail was, well for me this meant that he really liked my pic, and emphatized with the mood of the shot :). I knew he did, but seeing the image done that way just… felt really good.
On Sunday I met Alenah, and we had some time for a few pics too, which we rarely have because when we meet…
Anyway, we had time for a few pics, which I have been planning for a long time now and I wanted to include them here too, as this could also have happened on the same day:
My fourth submitted pic to The Arcade Photo Contest somehow ended up to have rather symbolic content, which I really enjoyed to put together. You have to work in the contraints of event items and try come up with a message, or convey a mood. Well whatever the outcome, I did like how my depiction of Jesus turned out, so I included a few more pics of him below.

Awesome news, one of my pics was chosen to win the grand prize in the Pinoy Hideout competition. It is a fantastic, great feeling, and I am deeply honoured! 🙂
I found this hair with poses at Argrace and thought how fitting it would be with the horses. I just loved the peace that shore offered and felt like a great moment and mood to capture. I love it that others could relate too 🙂 I wish this moment of beauty, happiness and harmony with nature to everyone every once in a while.
Larissa is also wearing: Sweater from Monso, boots from Mon Tissu and jeans from Drawmachine from ages ago.
Below I included the links to the other winners, as I wanted to see them in one place. But all the participants did a great job, it was a tight race, as usual 🙂
Some of my other favourites:
Also, if you have a photo contest, don’t forget to submit your pic to my Photo contest announcements group created for this purpose.
My first peek at Umbra, location of the most recent photography contest I found. Pretty spectacular place with many scenes you can play with. Here is a select few I came up with, to get a taste. Go, make your own and link them in the comments 🙂
Also, I created this Flickr group for Contest Announcements, I hope it will work and help more people to find these opportunities to show off talent.
Exploring Pinoy Hideout is quite some fun, especially when you have time to play around with windlight settings. Here is a series with random locations picked. There is an ongoing photo contest in November, but I believe this is going to be a favoured photoshoot/wedding/honeymoon location for a long while.
Today is the last day for “The Chamber Society” photo contest and just submitted the above picture. I am sure there are many great competitors in there, but it has been a gret project, as always.
- Pose: Del May
- Dress: Leezu
- Hair on Larissa: Argrace
- Coat on Apollo: Deadwool
- Gloves on Apollo: FATEwear
Location: The Chamber Society – Upper Floor
First, I wanted to fill the upper floor to have the Eyes Wide Shut mood, and with the help of a few club members we did a great series, but somehow I voted for the above picture with a Del May pose. It is hard to make a convincing shot with so many people. You can view the series with other great pictures in the Flickr group for The Chamber.
Update on 26th October: Did not even get into the first 20, but I enjoyed planning for the contest. I guess my approach is very different to these pics than it was expected. OR I sohuld have played with the lights more. All in all congratulations to the winners and all participants.
- The Secret Store: Little Alien – Glubux
- D-Lab: Monster4 Chair 01
- Half-deer: A Forest’s Tale Butterfly and Blooming Button Bow
- *BOOM* : Piyo Piyo Gun (lilac)
- .Enfant Terrible. Cross bag
I like the idea of a creative challenge, and this is my first Arcade event. First I went for the gamer geek items on a pirate bear, but I realized that you do not only need to show 5 products, they have to be from different creators.
Somehow loved how the monster chairs looked. Made a few pics of these for fun with Abigel. She is a great, innocent and wild girl, her style fitting the plushies perfectly.
In the end I could trade a few items and got a rare UFO. From there I just needed to put them together and the picture sort of made itself. I love the expression and the crazy style. Decided to go with plain black background, something I am experimenting these days. Simply puts the focus on the subject and the lighting effects get more attention. Also, fits the space theme.
These are all great quality products, awesome fun to work with! Thanks for the creators and the event for this experience, preparing the image was great fun.
